There is an ever greater need to monitor the environment and the inputs into it as we strive to deal with the twin pressures of growth and climate change. Coupled with this, the demand from the public, environmental NGOs and politicians for transparency, visibility and confidence in how we manage environmental risks is higher than ever before. This is particularly the case with respect to waste water monitoring. The presentation will explore how we have historically monitored, what we are doing now and what the future is for waste water monitoring for regulation, planning and the environment. We will discuss how we will respond as the regulator and what the sector can do to meet both environmental and reputation challenges. The old adage ‘if you don’t measure it, you can’t manage it’ has never seemed so important.
