Abstract Information :

Rapid urbanization and industrial growth leads to great impact on climate change. Climate variations causes earth warmer and will result in scorched urban area. Human intervention and generation of anthropogenic heat discern Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon within urban area. Human induced activities produce air pollutants like CO2, CO, NOx, SOx etc. contributes to greenhouse effect. Temperature rises due to emission of such greenhouse gases and thus accumulating to UHI. Consequently, ambient air temperature was scrutinized and isotherm was derived for five locations of Rajkot city having different typology viz. Industrial, Central Business Disctrict, Residential, New Developing area and Transit oriented zone. Some environmental factors such as Carbon Dioxide, Sulphur Oxides, Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon Monoxide which area contributors of UHI effect had been analyzed using Geospatial tools for the preferred locations of Rajkot city. From the analysis it can be concluded that different typologies depict variation in pollution concentration and pollution exceeds to their acceptable limits at certain typology. Hence, air pollution mitigation strategies was established, their effectiveness and resilience was further applied to form UHI resilient strategies. Implementation of air pollution mitigation strategies will minimize concentration of CO2 up to 600 ppm, bring CO emissions between 1 ppm to 2 ppm, NOx ranges from 40 ppm to 80 ppm and reduces SOx from 50 ppm to 80 ppm as per acceptance of air quality standard India.
