Abstract Information :
Particulate matter (PM) exerts effects at different levels of the body, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems being the most affected; Because of this, what is suggested by the WHO for MP2.5 is 15μg/m3 of daily concentration and 5μg/m3 of annual concentration. Regarding the above, the province of Concepción, specifically in the so-called Greater Concepción, which includes the commune of Coronel; It is an area that was declared in 2006, saturated for MP10, through the D.S. 41/2006, later in 2015 it was declared saturated for MP2.5 in daily concentrations through the decree 15/2015; Finally, in 2019 the plan comes into effect. prevention and environmental decontamination of greater Concepción, which was approved by decree 6/2019 of the Ministry of Environment (MMA). The commune of Coronel was observed, for being an area with a high presence of industries included thermoelectric plants and historically a sacrifice zone with high pollution levels. So, the main objective, is to characterize the impact of particulate matter MP2.5 on respiratory diseases in the city of Coronel, Bio bio region. Specific objective 1: Determine the effect of short-term exposure, calculating emergency admissions associated with respiratory problems and particulate matter MP2.5 in the city of Coronel, in different periods of time. Analyzing emergency admissions respiratory diseases in San Jose hospital in 2023, a peak is evident of cases associated with acute respiratory infection (ARI) and bronchitis, between the months of March to July, which agrees with the months of greatest pollution. According to current regulations D.S. 12/2011, none of the years evaluated was found saturated for MP2.5, even so, it was obtained important results regarding income numbers, in where from 2017 to November 2023, there have been more than 157,000 admissions for respiratory emergencies in the commune, this is about 22,000 cases a year, a figure that corresponds to about 20% of the population of Coronel. AirQ+ is a very useful tool to estimate associated cases air pollution, however, more analysis is needed epidemiological and statistical in order to establish a better model to determine its effect on the health of the population.
