Abstract Information :
Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS) is a real-time gas phase analyser, using soft chemical ionisation to detect a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to sub-parts-per-billion (ppbV) levels. Traditionally, SIFT-MS was largely a manual, or passive sampler, but in recent years, the addition of front-end automation has enabled SIFT-MS to be applied to a much wider range of high-throughput applications. These include rapid targeted analysis of water and soil, residual solvent analysis - particularly within the pharmaceutical space, and analysis of a wide range of food and beverage products. Additionally, through the application of multivariate statistical analysis, large untargeted datasets can be easily handled. This talk will briefly outline the technique and present a series of case-studies, demonstrating the unique capabilities of Automated SIFT-MS and its use in the laboratory.
