Abstract Title: Turning a Compliance Baghouse Dust Monitoring requirement into $765K Annual Operating Savings
Session Choice: Industry Case studies on current monitoring solutions
Presenter Name: Mr Steven Werrell

Abstract Information :

New state EPA regulations required a Minerals Manufacturer to monitor and report filter particulate emissions, differential pressure (DP) and pulse pressure on every dust collector/baghouse. . With 120 baghouses at its calcium carbonate facility, the plant faced a large expense and concerns about straining maintenance personnel and hampering production. Leading manufacturers gain a competitive edge by investing in technology, including intelligent control and sensing tools to drive production and operational efficiency. The plant operator took this mind set and not only met the new EPA requirements but found solutions that provided additional benefits. This Poster presentation highlights the significant cost savings, some $765K per year that the plant obtained by monitoring dust emissions, header tank pressures, solenoid and diaphragm valve health together with baghouse DP's. Using data from these sensors and by automatically controlling the pulse jet cleaning cycle it allowed the plant operator to reduce maintenance times, lost production, filter media wear and tear, compressed air usage and to make significant energy savings. Senor data was automatically made available to Process, Maintenance and Environmental staff via the cloud to allow instantaneous, alarm notification to mobile phones, office based PC's ,tablets etc. providing the ability for proactive maintenance reducing environmental impacts, lost production and maintenance costs.
