Water is elixir of life. Analysis of water before using it, to find the quality of water, is customary since the industrial revolution. This presentation introduces various types of water viz., Source water, Raw water, Process water (Desalinated water, Boiler Feed water, Cooling Tower water), Recycled water, Effluent water etc. and its pollution from various emerging contaminants. A comparison of different sum parameters which evolved over time is shown from which we can infer that TOC is globally accepted sum parameter to test quality of all waters. TOC can be used to understand Water Quality Index. TOC analysis is an indispensable tool offering insights about quality of Source water, Drinking water, Pure Water, Industrial Process water and Waste Water. The individual applications of TOC analysis for various waters and respective benefits are detailed. Guidelines given by global and national regulatory bodies for various waters are provided here. The different principles of technology and ease of operation of various TOC analyzers are also summarized. The capacity of TOC analysis to measure carbon loading directly at high speeds is propelling organics analysis past Regulatory discharge compliance and into cost reduction via process control & asset protection is bottom lined.
