Abstract Information :

As the stack emission standards are getting stringent day by day, many industries are directed by concerned State Pollution Control Boards (SPCB) to install "more efficient Air Pollution Control Devices (APCD)". For applications like Industrial furnaces, Process steam boilers (involving combustion of coal/lignite/ agro waste fuels), this generally calls for installing an "add on APCD", it could be either a Bagfilter or a Venturi Scrubber (in addition to the existing APCDs like settling chamber, cyclone, multiclone, spray tower etc) . For bigger boilers, like cogeneration boilers (50 to 300 TPH) already having ESP, it may call for "adding more field" in ESP or augmentation of ESP. This paper analyses 3 situations based on actual field studies conducted, the problems identified and possible solutions to improve on Air pollution control along with improving overall system efficiency. The situations discussed are, a Wet Scrubber type APCD for controlling emissions from Steel Melting Induction Furnaces, a small size (6 TPH) Lignite fired Process Boiler with add on Bagfilter type APCD and a large size (200 TPH) Coal fired Captive Power Plant Boiler with ESP. In overall, it is possible to meet the stringent emission standards by improving performance of existing APCDs. A systematic study of the entire system should be first undertaken before adding on or replacing existing APCD's, which will be most techno-commercially feasible solution.
