Environment Sustainability – CAAQMS for Reliable Pollutant Monitoring Author: Bhavya Srivastava General Manager- Environment & Process Monitoring Thermo Fisher Scientific India As part of the Clean Air initiative, Thermo Fisher Scientific has been taking many important measures in the field of Measurement, to ensure clean breathable air while supporting the economic development initiatives. The states across India along with Centre, is responsible to monitor and control the pollutant levels from time-to-time basis accurate continuous data insights which in turn affect the policy formulations to control the pollutant levels. Under the NAAQMS 2009 guidelines, every industry has to monitor various parameters which affect the air quality and submit the data to the respective Central and State Pollution control boards on a continuous basis. Rooms Size systems called as Continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations (CAAQMS) stations are commissioned to monitor pollutants such as PM 10, PM 2.5, Sox, NOx, CO, etc. in ppb levels and report the data to the authorities. Apart from the industries, the states also install their own stations at various locations basis the population density, construction activity or ecologically sensitive zones and report the data in the public forum to maintain transparency and drive policy intervention to improve air quality as and when required.
