Abstract Information :
As known that the economic power of a country is determined by its output of steel. So, studies of steel properties in general and electrochemical, especially, have been received a great attention. Corrosion is a great problem which faced the world from the last years until now. We can reduce "inhibit" it in the metals by several methods as the environment need. Surface active agents are considered as important compounds which have important applications in various industrial fields. Surfactants are used as corrosion inhibitors for different metals in the corrosive media.
The thesis discusses the kinetics of corrosion and corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 0.5 M HCl in the absence and presence of different concentrations of some surfactants, namely cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), Cetyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (CTPPB) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). The experimental part was done by chemical (weight loss and gasometry), electrochemical (Potentiodynamic, impedance) techniques and surface examination using scanning electron microscope SEM and energy dispersive x-ray EDX.
