Abstract Title: Big data and Artificial intelligence enable best use of real time pollution monitoring in India
Session Choice: Data Management
Presenter Name: Mr Sudheesh Narayanan
Company/Organisation: KnowledgeLens
Country: India

Abstract Information :

Real time monitoring of industrial pollution in India has a goal of introducing self- monitoring practice in industries. In last five years the implementation has improved a lot. The tag of producing incorrect and manipulated data is fading away. The role of big data and artificial intelligence enabled data collection, reporting and analytics has been encouraging. It has made the system more transparent, less susceptible for manual intervention and easy to analyse, interpret, report and store.

The regulators’ server, being used by the central environment regulator and majority of the state environmental regulators, have inbuilt analytical capacity. To list a few, right from geographical location of the site, analyser’s details, parameter wise data, the system is capable to generate all kind of analysis and customized report a user wish to carry. Not only this, the system provides easy tools for detecting anomaly, chances of manipulation and records of operation and maintenance practices. A huge amount of information can be stored on the servers for years and access from anywhere as per the user authorization levels. The system is capable to get calibration done automatically and remotely for gaseous parameters.

Big data and AI are also playing role for ambient air quality monitoring in India. The software, also accessible through mobile app called” Sameer” collects data from all CAAQMS installed in various cities in India, calculate Air Quality Index (AQI) and publishes it. The common public can now see the air quality of their area and also connect and file complaints related to it through Sameer app. Similar infrastructure has been built for water quality monitoring in states.

Environmental regulation in a vast country like India where resources and infrastructure are a challenge, big data and AI has been playing a very important role. It has made digitalization and automation more secure easy and transparent.

In the presentation, data handling requirement of the real-time monitoring, use by regulators and industries, role of technology providers, features of the AI and big data enabled software, benefits and future of the real time monitoring system towards compliance will be shared.
