Abstract Title: Benchmark FTIR Technology in Waste to Energy Emission Monitoring
Session Choice: Other
Presenter Name: Mr Johannes Schmitt
Co-authors:Mr Ben Goossens
Company/Organisation: ABB
Country: Germany

Abstract Information :

Growing economies naturally lead to increase in energy consumption and harmful emissions with undoubtedly negative impact on health and environment. It changes the wealth and consumer behavior. Studies on India project an increase from 62 million tons of waste to about 150 million tons of waste by 2030. Waste management is therefore essential.

A central component of waste management in many countries of the world is the shift from landfills to the incineration of waste with generation of energy in so called waste to energy plants.

The global growth of these waste to energy plants led to stringent regulations for emission limits, which require suitable and reliable measurement methods.

The presentation introduces the FTIR-technology (Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy) used by ABB’s turn-key emission monitoring system ACF5000 as a solution for precise continuous emission monitoring in waste to energy plants and puts it in context of other available technologies. It will further discuss general challenges regarding flue gas composition and necessary measures to mitigate consequential risks. The presentation will end with the view of the focus on how digital solutions will drastically change the interaction of its users, going from integrated Dynamic QR code to cloud solutions.
