Abstract Information :
A decade of CEMS market: Lessons for Stakeholders A real-time monitoring and reporting system is an essential tool towards sustainable industrialisation. It has been almost a decade since India formally initiated CEMS for major industries. At present, the number of installations reaches around a hundred thousand across the highly polluting industries. In terms of investment, it got a billion USD in emission monitoring and is further growing. However, the data accuracy has still been noticed as not up to the mark, and therefore, the use of the data for legal compliance checks is also awaited. A number of challenges have been identified in the proper implementation of CEMS, some of which have been dealt with through the experience gained in the last decade; a lot of them are yet to be tackled. The presentation will cover a recent CEMS implementation study to assess the implementation status, gaps in the implementation, core challenges and corrective measures to be taken. The study will also highlight the key roles and responsibilities each group of stakeholders should take. The findings will put forth a set of suggestions for technology and service providers to make better outreach, brands and business. The presentation will also share a self-assessment checklist that industries and environmental regulators can use for early implementation checks and improvements.
