Abstract Information :

Sulfur compounds, even at low concentrations, are of high importance in petrochemical products as they can act as catalyst poisons in the refining process. This poses the need for sensitive, yet selective detectors providing reliable detection and quantitation of potential sulfur compounds.

In combination with gas chromatographic separation the high selectivity and sensitivity of sulfur chemiluminescence detection (SCD) allows the determination of sulfur components even in complex matrixes like diesel fuel. Due to equimolarity on sulfur a total sulfur determination or easy calibration of sulfur component by one response factor is possible with SCD.

For good recovery results the deactivation of the complete flow paths of the sample from injection system to the director is crucial. Even small but not deactivated surfaces might affect the result.

Detection limits and equimolarity results achieved with a configuration of GC-2030 and SCD-2030 sulfur chemiluminescence detector are discussed based on measurements of sulfur components in gaseous and liquid matrixes.
