Abstract Information :

Plant-wide digitization and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) presents exciting opportunities for industry to combine advanced analytics with a network of industrial instruments and analyzers. The latest technology features high data rates reduced latency, higher system capacity, and the potential for massive device connectivity. The latest 5G communications technologies facilitate systems that can monitor, collect, exchange, and analyze, plant-wide data to discover valuable new insights that can help drive smarter, faster business decisions. The other side of the coin is that wider distribution of Industrial Process Control (IPC) data presents opportunities for disreputable actors to do considerable damage to an industrial plant by making changes to that data. The safety implications for those who work in and around oil and gas installations are clearly understood. While 5G technologies are being rolled out, the cyber threat from numerous nefarious sources appears to be growing at an accelerating clip. This paper discusses the issues relating to the development of cybersecure process analyzer networks and the certifications that the Industrial Automation and Control System (IACS) community will need to deal with going forward.
