Abstract Information :

The objective of this methodology development is the measurement, identification, and quantification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted during manufacturing processes as well as those emitted by end-products with the aim of increasing the safety of workers, general population, and environment. For the measurement of VOCs, a system for capturing the air will be used, retaining target substances for their subsequent thermal desorption and analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. In the automotive industry, these emissions assessments are already used to measure VOCs from materials used for interior parts to ensure consumer safety. We are working on the implementation of this methodology in the ceramic industry for the measurement of VOCs emitted by the inkjet inks during the firing process. A comparative study between different types of inks is being carried out in which the sampling conditions (flow rate, temperature, sample quantity, etc.) and analysis conditions have already been optimized. Based on the results and expertise obtained in these industries, we expect to increase the application of this technique to other industries such as construction, agriculture, recycling, etc.
