The need to detect and combat harmful emissions is not going away; we can all see, smell and even taste pollution. New developments in analytical technologies allow for near real time monitoring of potentially damaging airborne toxics, in the USA strict guidelines laid out by the EPA have specified certain VOCs such as benzene as harmful to the general population even at low levels. Regulations laid out by regional groups such as SCAQMD have stated that oil refineries must continuously monitor these and report in real time their findings. Here we present data from multiple surveys using the DV3000 UV-DOAS mobile analyser that was conducted alongside regional environmental departments and local consultants of known areas of interest.
