Poland continues to invest in cutting-edge science to support the design, construction and operations of supercritical coal-fired power plants. Beyond improved energy efficiencies, initiatives are underway to evaluate and optimize mercury emissions abatement and emissions monitoring. This paper will chronical the path of research, both completed and planned, relative to pilot-scale evaluations of candidate mercury control strategies for specific coal-fired units in Poland. It also provides details on the selection, implementation and experience with mercury Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (HgCEMS).
