Biography:

Justine is the head of science for the Joint Air Quality Unit. The unit is co-owned by the Department of Transport and Defra to deliver the Nitrogen Dioxide Plan and is a Government Major Portfolio Project. Justine’s role includes leading multi-disciplinary teams of specialists to reduce roadside Nitrogen Dioxide concentrations to within legal limits in the shortest possible time.
Prior to working in the Joint Air Quality Unit, Justine has had a varied analytical career in Government. As the Head of Science for International Air Quality Science for Defra, Justine led the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory, represented the UK at EU expert group meetings and worked as the Defra led for the UK Air Quality Monitoring networks. Previously as the Head of Science for Resource Efficiency, she identified carbon mitigation options from the waste sector and updated international values for the composition of waste. She has a young family and also works as a school governor for a special school.
