The Water Industry has hundreds of thousands of critical assets - defined so either because they form part of the potable water distribution network or in wastewater because their performance is linked to the protection of the environment. In these days of growing cyber crime, terrorism, uncertainly over cellular migration and the demands of TOTEX, there is increasing demand for a robust, secure and affordable mission critical variant of IoT that operates over a more secure and legally protected media than the current offerings of IoT which are on licence free spectrum and totally unprotected. This paper explores the significant advantages of using multi-tier Tetra and/or PRM networks and gateways as a backbone for real-time monitoring and/or control of remote water industry assets.
