GAMBICA is the UK Trade Association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation and Laboratory Technology. It has membership of over 200 companies including major multinationals as well as small and medium sized enterprises.
Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows total output of the industry represented by GAMBICA close to £6.9 billion with exports of £3.7 billion and a positive trade balance just over £260 million.
The Association’s primary objectives are to further the successful development of the industry and to promote the competitiveness and profitability of member companies.
The scope of the Association covers four principal sectors of the industry:
• Industrial automation products and systems
• Process instrumentation and control
• Laboratory technology
• Test and measurement equipment for electrical and electronics industries
We are heavily involved in technical and standardisation activities with representatives on around 100 BSI committees and many also on CENELEC and IEC committees.
We are also actively participating in European legislation including LVD, ATEX, EMCD, PED, MD, WEEE, RoHS, REACH, Conflict minerals, Circular economy, etc...
We also conduct product market data collections, salary surveys and provide economic trend information to members.
Another benefit for the UK instrumentation industry is that we lobby the UK government to make sure that they are aware of the needs of the industry. This includes the engineering skills shortage and apprenticeships, the need for the Knowledge Transfer Networks and funding for catapult centres so that new technology can be commercialised within the UK.
