Abstract Information :
The automotive industry has been patiently awaiting ILSAC GF-6, a new engine oil category for passenger vehicles and light trucks in the United States. GF-6 has been plagued with delays due to the unprecedented number of new engine tests and seemingly endless complications. Since the first allowable date has been pushed multiple times, ILSAC will not mention another release date unless they can stick to it. However, it is estimated that the new category unveiling may slip into 2020. In the meantime, we will explore the current state of ILSAC GF-6 in this poster. In the United States, at least 30% of the GHG emissions are generated by the transportation sector. The new ILSAC GF-6 certified engine oils will meet the new USA Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) requirements of an average fuel economy of 54.5 MPG by 2025. We will also discuss in this poster the need for this new standard and the improvements made over the preceding GF-5 specifications.
