Abstract Information :

Carbon-based magnetic materials are promising adsorbents to remove toxic substances from the environment. However, green synthesis strategies and the selection of suitable materials are primarily required for improved performance while reducing its carbon footprint. The present work focuses on magnetite impregnated two-dimensional (2D) nanostructure material incorporated with simple sonication assist thermal techniques to prepare a non-toxic, cost?effective high-affinity passive adsorbent for assessment of mercury pollution. A higher yield of 62.32% was obtained in comparison with other hydrothermal processes using different monomers. The developed material also displayed added benefits of scalability, recyclability, and selectivity that are attributed to the material?s physical properties, which include hierarchical porosity, a high density of magnetite, and robustness that improve the binding efficiency with mercury as determined by FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, X?ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), AFM, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and HR-TEM, FESEM-EDS. The battery of the analytical instrument confirms the signature profile of the nanosheets and their morphological nature. The resultant material was able to adsorb inorganic mercury (Hg2+) in sea, river, rain, and Milli-Q water with an efficiency of 89%, 93%, 97%, and 100%, respectively at natural pH. Each analysis required a lesser quantity of nanomaterial than for other carbon-supported nanocomposites. The synthesized material may be employed as a promising low-cost green adsorbent nanostructure material in various grounds such as onboard passive sampler material, environmental remediation, and industrial applications.
