Abstract Information :

This paper will present a new research project on industrial fugitive dust emissions that will go till 2020 and some very first results from test measurement campaigns done in 2017. The project aims to develop methodology that enable metal producing industries in Norway to monitor fugitive dust emissions on-line with a cost- and resource effective sensing network. A variety of industrial partners with common fugitive dust problems participate in the project, namely production of silicon and carbon (Elkem; several locations), nickel and copper (Glencore Nikkelverk Kristiansand), silicon carbide (Saint-Gobain Lillesand), and silico manganese (Eramet Norway AS Kvinesdal). All these industries experience how the knowledge gaps in the full quantification and understanding of the sources and dynamics of on-site released fugitive dust plumes have halted the industry sector and the authorities in Norway in making sound strategies to effectively limit or control these emissions. The first results are focused on sensor capabilities in fence line dust monitoring in industrial settings. The project has received funding from the Research Council of Norway's Regional Program in Agder, Norway (RFF Agder).
