Abstract Title: Introduction and Overview of Biogenic carbon measurement
Presenter Name: Stewart Davis
Company/Organisation: Viridor
Country: United Kingdom

Abstract Information :

In order to prevent the Earth’s warming from exceeding 1.5 0C, global greenhouse gas emissions need to be reduced by 50% by 2030. In June 2019, the UK was the first major economy to set legally-binding targets to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. One key aspect of delivering net-zero will be carbon capture and storage. According to the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change: “Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a key pillar in achieving Net Zero, requiring significant progress in the 2020s to get on track to meeting the target by 2050. However, it is yet to be developed at scale in the UK and there was little progress in the 2010s. It must be a priority progress area for the 2020s”. This session will serve as a taster session for a more detailed assessment of the impact of impact of CCS on the monitoring community by bringing together speakers from the regulatory community and relevant industrial sectors with monitoring specialists. There is a particular focus on the current measurement techniques used for assessing key metrics such as the quantification of the biogenic fraction in carbon dioxide emissions and potential regulatory requirements around emissions of process amines
