Abstract Information :
Post combustion carbon capture process exhausts present a unique set of challenges when it comes to emissions measurement.
Exhaust gas matrices exhibit entirely different characteristics to ‘traditional’ combustion exhausts ie cool and supersaturated. This, coupled with potential to form new pollutants through reactions between exhaust gas pollutants and CO2 capture media, means that 'traditional' stack testing methods may not be appropriate.
NPL have carried out lab and field trials of several monitoring methods, the results of which will be presented here.
Further research is required - into the adaptation of existing monitoring methods and the validation of new methods - in order to fully resolve all of the challenges encountered.
